It seems to be a bi-annual event, that we take a trip up to Scotland in late Autumn – early Winter. Once again we based ourselves out of Aviemore. A small town in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, just a few miles away from the Cairngorms Mountain Range.
Loch an Eilein is a small freshwater loch in the Rothiemurchus Forest, which hosts a very attractive 5km walk around its bank. As you walk through the deep pine forest, views and openings appear giving stunning views across the loch and at the island castle.
As we headed back from the Rothiemurchus Forest and Centre we headed towards Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie, to have a look at the barracks built in 1719. The Barracks is 13miles south of Aviemore just off the A9.
