The Staycation Continues

Dorothea Quarry a disused slate quarry now tuned in to a nature reserve close to the village of Talysarn and Penygroes in North Wales, the slate vanes were vertical and deep below the watertable and needed to be continuously pumped dry, when the slate production stopped in the 1970’s the three quarries began to flood.

These crystal clear deep lakes became a popular scuba diving site but with the uncharted nature of the lakes and scuba diving was officially banned, due to the number of deaths it became known as the death pool.

The views from around and above the lakes are something else, making it great for photography and looking at the Welsh mountain vistas.
